Library actively collecting overdue fees and unreturned borrowed items

Geauga County Public Library’s (GCPL) automated catalog system is making it easier to track down patrons with overdue fines as well as collect unreturned library materials. GCPL materials are a valuable community asset, and ensuring that the entire collection is available to all patrons is a constant goal.
Because GCPL materials are shared throughout the county as well as the State of Ohio via SearchOhio, missing items put a strain on all library users in the state. Notices are being sent to GCPL patrons with overdue fees and unreturned items. Anyone who does not respond will be contacted by a collections agency.
“The majority of our patrons respect our collection and Geauga readers,” says GCPL Director Deborah F. O’Connor. “We understand that oversights happen; people forget to return items from time to time. We want everyone to feel comfortable coming to the library to not only resolve these long overdue issues, but to also continue checking out books, CDs, movies and tapping into our staff experts. This initiative is about keeping a complete collection intact for all our patrons to enjoy.”
