Milkweed for Mother’s Day!

Get a free milkweed plant to benefit beautiful Monarchs – and your beautiful Mom!

In an effort to bolster the imperiled Monarch butterfly population, Geauga Park District is again propagating native milkweed, and is giving plants away free for Mother’s Day!

Stop by The West Woods Nature Center on Sunday, May 14th, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to get your free pot and learn how, where and when to plant it on your property.

A major factor in the Monarchs’ sad drop has been loss of habitat, both in the U.S. and in their overwintering locations in Mexico, and a freak winter storm in March 2016 wiped out as much as 50 percent of the recently growing overwintering population. Even little plots of milkweed in a yard can make a difference.

Geauga Park District is grateful for the partnership of John’s Countryside Nursery in Middlefield in lending space toward the germination of these helpful milkweed plants. Thank you, John’s!
